Product Description

According to Sharon Gannon, the single most important part of your yoga practice is the strict adherence to a vegetarian diet–a diet free of needless cruelty, harm, and injustice.

Gannon offers truth and wisdom from a tradition of spiritual practice thousands of years old and explains how to apply these practices to our modern lifestyles.

Drawing upon her studies of Vedic traditions, Gannon explores how the practices of yoga are historically and structurally tied to an ethical vegetarian lifestyle. Integral to each another, both yoga and vegetarianism form a framework for physical and spiritual attunement, and when practiced as a whole provide the path not only to physical health, but to spiritual enlightenment.

Editorial Reviews

Michael Franti, Musician, activist, and author of Food for the Masses : "Sharon's writing is born from her commitment to walking the talk. She is the living embodiment of the selflessness she teaches and has had a profound impact on my life as a musician and peace worker. She encourages me by her example to mean what I say and to say what I mean with each breath and with each smile."

Rory Freedman, Co-author of the #1 New York Times Bestseller Skinny Bitch : "Sharon Gannon beautifully illustrates the perfect symbiosis of yoga and vegetarianism. The most mindful, spiritual, soulful practice married to the most healthful, harmless, life-affirming diet - what could be more intuitive, more beneficial, and more necessary?"

Russell Simmons, CEO of Rush Communications and author of Do You!: 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success : "What I have learned from Jivamukti Yoga about the practice of ahimsa has inspired me not only to stop the hurtful practice of eating meat but to support the causes of those defending the animals with whom we share our planet. I have found that refraining from the practice of eating animal products has given me a more happy and still life. As a yogi, I am less inclined to make emphatic statements, but one I can make without reservation is that the state of Yoga cannot be achieved by one who supports the destruction of the animals or the planet. Therefore I recommend this book and these ideas to anyone who has set their sights on the greatest and only human goal, Self-realization. Fellow seekers of truth, I offer this book as a tool to use on your journey to enlightenment. Enjoy the ride."
